PADI OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION COURSE

What You Learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
  • Knowledge Development (classroom study with DVD to understand basic principles of scuba diving)
  • 5 Confined Water Dives (in pool) to learn basic scuba skills
  • 4 Open Water Dives (ocean) to review your skills and explore!

You may try diving through a Discover Scuba Diving experience first (cost $95), and the skills you learn will be credited toward the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification. Underworld Scuba – Scuba Shack will also credit $50 of the $95 you’ve paid toward the full PADI Open Water Certification.

Prerequisites:

To enroll in the PADI Open Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must:

·         Be 10 years or older

·         Be in good physical condition (on the PADI OWC application, you must be able to answer “NO” to all health-related questions).

The Fun Part

The fun part about this course is . . . well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe under water for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver.

During the course, you’ll make at least five pool dives and four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

The course takes about 3 days; days do not have to be consecutive, and your PADI instructor will work with your vacation schedule. If you have time left in Manzanillo, use it to make some more dives, and with 9 total under your belt, you can start on PADI’s continuing education program by doing your Advanced Open Water or any of 10 specialty dives offered by Underworld Scuba – Scuba Shack.

The Scuba Gear You Use

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear including a regulator, Buoyancy Compensator Device, wet suit, and standard accessories. The equipment you wear is new, high quality Sherwood, and other well-known scuba gear manufacturers.

When you get certified through Underworld Scuba – Scuba Shack, PADI Dive Center #20008, you’ll have an opportunity to try out many different masks and snorkels, and other equipment, while saving up to 50-80% off of standard U.S. prices. In our relaxed, no-pressure resort atmosphere, you’ll be able to hone your scuba diving skills, and learn about terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you’ll read a description and watch a DVD video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the pool to practice these skills with your instructor, followed immediately by your ocean dives.

The total cost for 1 person is $350 U.S. For two or more, cost is $300 U.S./person. Price includes all equipment needed to complete the course, transportation, classroom sessions as needed, 5 pool sessions, use of open water manual,  DVDs, exam, and 4 ocean dives. You only need to bring your sunscreen and bathing suit, and we take care of the rest!

*Every effort will be made to accommodate your vacation schedule and give you the class dates you've requested, weather and conditions permitting. It is recommended that you plan your classes for the first days of your stay. While other tours can be done rain or shine, the Pacific Ocean can be unpredictable. By planning your diving activities first, when weather conditions do not permit you to dive on your chosen day, you still have other days as options. If, after choosing the days for class, you wish to change (for any reason), we will do our best to accommodate you.
