El Jimador carries the tequila piña (root) after the leaves have been chopped off with a machete.

Experience the spirit of Mexico as you discover how the Blue Agave plant is harvested and processed to produce the world famous Mexican tequila.

There are several hundred brands of tequila made from this spiny-leafed plant known as agave azul.

When you buy tequila, if it says "100% agave azul" it is pure tequila and not cut with cane sugar alcohol.

You´ll travel for approximately 15 minutes through the countryside to an authentic Blue Agave plantation at Rancho Peña Blanca, north of Manzanillo.

Learn how the Blue Agave is grown and harvested, hear about the different processes of making Tequila and watch El Jimador prepare the mature plant for cooking.

There are two types of tequila, white ("blanca") and gold ("oro"). The white is usually coarser and stronger tasting, and the gold is more mellow and smooth. There is also aged ("reposado"), and very old ("viejo"), which means the length of time and type of cask it is stored in. Casks are made out of various types of hardwood, as well as aluminum. The best tequila is in woodwen casks and aged for a long time. A very aged, 100% Blue Agave tequila will cost more.

You´ll have the opportunity to sample cooked agave and taste the different types of tequila accompanied by a light snack!.  Note: Minimum age for consuming alcoholic drinks is 21 years. Be advised this is not a Tequila factory.
